Do you personally know of someone who has been adopted or even a family that has adopted?
Adopted – “Taken as one’s own; received as son and heir” – American Dictionary of the English Language – Noah Webster 1828
I have a dear friend, one of the very first guys I met when I moved to Georgia back in 2003. At the time he and his precious wife had three children, two biological sons, and one adopted daughter. They were and are a great family. Through the years their passion for adoption has grown to the degree that they now have 12 kids, 10 adopted and 2 biological. They have also created a ministry, Jochebed’s Hope, to help those going through the adoption process.
Adoption Illustrates God’s Love for Us
Adoption is a beautiful picture of what happens to you and me when we accept Jesus Christ as our real and personal Savior. We immediately become part of God’s forever family and are thereby entitled to all the benefits as a co-heir with Jesus!
Stop and think about that statement for just a moment!
Back to Noah Webster here – Coheir – “A joint heir; one who succeeds to a share of an inheritance, which is to be divided among two or more.”
That means that as wretched of a sinner as I was, God the Father sent His only Son; to live a perfect and sinless life. He died a substitutionary and atoning death on a cross and on the third day He rose from the grave! All of which was done for me, and when I by faith accept God’s Gift of salvation by grace I immediately become a joint heir with Jesus.
That’s what I call an amazing love!
Have you ever experienced that love?
If not, I invite you to join us at the Cabernet Steakhouse on Windward this Friday at 7:00 am. We’ll look together at Romans 8:12-17 and discuss what it means to be adopted into God’s forever family.
Join us as we learn about our response to His great love.
I look forward, with eager expectancy, to seeing you early in the morning on Friday,
“For you did not receive the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption as sons, by whom we cry, ‘Abba! Father!’” – Romans 8:15
“Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, to make you obey its passions.” – Romans 6:13
“We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and take every thought captive to obey Christ.” – 2 Corinthians 10:5
“… ‘Father, if you are willing, remove this cup from me. Nevertheless, not my will, but yours, be done.’” – Luke 22:42
“Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life.” – Proverbs 4:23
