The God Who invented Christmas…
- Christmas past is captivating.
- Christmas future is curious.
- Christmas present has choices…
An angel of the Lord appeared to Joseph and told him not to be afraid to take Mary as his wife for the child conceived in her was of the Holy Spirit.
Joseph had a choice. Believe this incredible news or dismiss it as one of the most ridiculous things he ever heard. As he was taking it in, the angel gave Joseph the point of Christmas.
Note how the point of Christmas is connected to the need for Christmas.
She will bear a Son and you shall call His name Jesus, for He will save His people from their sin. Matthew 1:21
God became flesh. The King of all Kings was born in the lowliest of all places. Zacharias, Elizabeth, baby John, angels, shepherds, wise men, aged Simeon, prophetess Anna, all miraculously confirmed who Jesus is. Quite a line-up of folks who got Christmas!
Jesus grew, lived, ministered, taught, was crucified, but then rose to conquer death and bridge the separation that our sin produced. Through Jesus, God provides each of us a chance to give our sin to Him.
During Christmas, we symbolically practice gift exchange. God’s present back to us is forgiveness of our confessed sins, but it’s more than that.
In Christmas present, the God who invented Christmas offers us the perfect and complete Christmas present.
Behold, the virgin shall be with child and shall bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel, which translated means ‘God with us.’ Matthew 1:23
God’s gift to us includes God with us… both then, at His birth, and now.
What exactly does this mean?
Paul called this a mystery that was hidden but has been manifested. It’s a truth for which Paul was persecuted, suffered and willingly died for.
Join us this Friday as we review Christmas past, look ahead to Christmas future and discuss Christmas present which is what Paul described as the riches and glory of God’s mystery. His full Christmas present:
…Christ in you, the hope of glory. – Colossians 1:27
