A few summers ago Sandy and I attended a workshop in Seattle facilitated by Dan Allendar.
One of the statements I remember most is Dan sharing that he didn’t know how many summers he had left on earth… and because of that he wanted to enjoy and make the most of each…
We’ve now stretched just beyond the halfway point of Summer 2014…
The numbers of things that draw and capture a man’s time, energy, attention and love are wide and varied…
Promising things that pick us up and can drop us straight down.
The love we thought we shared…
Sports… from little league through professional… the thrill of victory, the performance-pressure and agony of defeat. Golf… can’t wait to get out there and then end up throwing words and slamming clubs. Recreation… big smiles on the day purchasing that boat, trumped by wider smiles the day it sells.
Cars, houses, electronics, clothes, things….
We run to these… and later run from these.
Are you tired of the tease…?
Do you sense you are losing the fight; toss and turn can’t sleep at night? Do you ever just want to get away…?
Maybe it’s time for a direction correction.
Maybe it’s time to pay closer attention to a burning, yearning, learning feeling inside you… and ask yourself… where did real love go?
Seriously my friend, pause for a minute….
If you aren’t sure about who God is and what He thinks and how He has structured this world… thoughtfully and attentively consider God’s promise:
“If you will call upon Me and come and pray to Me, I will listen to you. You will seek Me and find Me when you search for me with all your heart. I will be found by you, declares the Lord.” Jeremiah 29:12-14
Now… if you’ve known God, but need to recalibrate… let me suggest that you take to heart and put to action Jesus’ priority for this summer and for life…
Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with your entire mind and with all your strength… and love your neighbor as yourself. Mark 12:30-31
I encourage and challenge you to very deliberately finish this summer with well-directed, action-oriented, untainted love!
There is only one source for that.
If you have a minute, punch me back and let us hear from you. I look forward to seeing you soon!
