HAPPY FATHER’S DAY men…
I come to you today excited about opportunity… and with 3 thoughts…
What is opportunity? Well, it is defined as a set of circumstances that makes it possible to do something.
As we all know, many times in life great opportunity comes brilliantly disguised and often blocked or trumped by problems.
Today at 9:30am Charleston Emanuel Methodist Episcopal Church held its first service since the problematic and horrific shooting. CNN covered the service live.
This service was anointed. This service held up forgiveness and grace and the changing life and death and resurrection of Jesus as the difference maker.
This service opened with the following perspective from I Thessalonians 5:18: In everything give thanks, for this is the will of God concerning you.
This service lifted up our God who is above all and the need for forgiveness as we fall in line with His will.
This service provided perspective: Earth has no sorrow that heaven can’t heal.
What a contrast from the hate and rioting and racism and revenge and hopelessness we have all witnessed the past year throughout our country… the gospel of Satan.
What a contrast from the work of ISIS and extreme Islam in our society today.
CNN, USA Today, NBC, etc. are beginning to post excerpts from this service. I encourage you to look these up.
As I was discussing this with Angelo’s mother while watching a 12 year-old One Thing for Youth baseball game today, she made an interesting observation: “The difference is these people involved in this shooting know God in their heart.”
My opportunity and our opportunity as we rub shoulders this week with the many people our lives touch is to bring this truth and contrast forward and speak the dynamic life-changing difference that Jesus makes in those who truly place faith and trust in Him.
Many people around us are distracted, distraught, hurting, searching or have given up. We have a unique opportunity to share truth. Seize it with all you have. Let the Spirit in you lead you to proactive boldness this week as you share truth and the hope that is in you.
Two other areas where I am embracing my opportunity and I encourage you to embrace yours: 1) in thanksgiving for family. What a blessing!… and what an opportunity to lead in love! Seize it men and resist all passivity. Your family needs all of you!
2) which I guess is really 3 including the opportunity connected to pointing out the stories of God’s love on contrasting display in Charleston… as you share that, you will be touching people in your life who are wounded, confused, discouraged… Invite them to experience something all together different by joining you this summer at one of our satellite groups. The opportunities are listed on the right.
Men, I pray your summer is relaxing, invigorating and fruitful. Seize your opportunities. Live love. Our time is short.
With you in service to our King!
