Therefore… now what?
How are you responding to God’s plan?
It was still dark out as I made my way toward Sandy Springs on my morning commute.
Just like everyday, everyone is in a hurry…why? Not because they can’t wait to start working…more likely because they didn’t get up early enough and every minute counts.
Traffic was stop-and-go as I made my way down Haynes Bridge road toward GA400. It was every man for himself. Hold your position. Close the gaps…inch forward as the traffic creeps along. Let no one in front of you. Let the late sleepers wait their turn.
So, as I approached a busy intersection, I noticed a car trying to enter from a shopping center driveway…a known cheaters shortcut. Several cars went by…nobody was letting this guy in.
As the driver inched up to merge, the gap would close and his car would jerk to a stop. He tried again and again got shut out. I could see the frustration building in his face.
When I got up to him… I let him in. I didn’t over think it. It just seemed like the right thing to do.
Timing was good, as the stoplight just about five cars in front of us had just turned green. Traffic was moving. But all of a sudden, while the light was green, a car up ahead in our lane stalled.
I saw the situation unfolding, was keeping a safe distance and was able to brake in time. But, the guy I let in apparently was focused on the green light and rear-ended the car in front of him – the one who refused to let him before me.
Whoa! I was spared from this accident!
As I maneuvered around the collision and headed on my way to work, I replayed these events a few times in my head. What just happened? How was it that I was not the one that got hit? Was it because of something I did? What if i didn’t let him in and the guy behind me did? What can I learn from this? What’s my response?
When something dramatic happens in your life, you have to pause. Ask a few questions. It demands a response.
So, what about God’s dramatic plan revealed through His son Jesus Christ? Sure, you believe and have made a commitment…but how have you responded?
Come this Friday as we take a deep dive into what 1 Peter chapter 1 says about how we should respond to God’s revealed plan.
