When it comes to what we’re thinking and what we believe, our mindset matters.
So, what are you thinking about right now, this very moment? Are you fully engaged as you begin this blog post, or is your mind wandering elsewhere as you skim over these words?
The mind is a set of cognitive faculties including consciousness, perception, thinking, judgment, language and memory. It is usually defined as the faculty of an entity’s thoughts and consciousness. It holds the power of imagination, recognition and appreciation, and is responsible for processing feelings and emotions, resulting in attitudes and actions.
The Never-Ending Battle
This mind of mine never seems to be able to stop. The more I try to think about nothing the more I find myself thinking about thinking about nothing.
I have even gone so far as to take a yoga class. After much discussion with my daughters over the Christmas break I finally capitulated. So there I was, in a yoga class with my wife and two adults daughters. Not to mention a gaggle of other ladies and one or two men.
I hate to say it, but it was obviously my first time. I stood out like a gigantic sore thumb.
Sure, I received plenty of encouraging words and invitations to come back but as of today I haven’t made it.
It seems I was supposed to relax, unwind and disengage my mind. There I was, barely moving faster than a sloth in cold weather, but I was sweating like an armed robber stuck in an elevator!
Instead of disengaging my mind all I could do was think of how hard this was and why was it that my body didn’t bend like they said it should?
This week we are going to focus our minds around Romans 8:5-11. Here the Apostle Paul instructs us of the importance of what our mind is set on. So important is it, that it makes a world of difference in our lives today, and in eternity!
So, put on your “Big Boy Yoga Pants” and arrive early at the Cabernet Steakhouse on Friday for One Thing for Men. We’ll have some coffee and donut holes ready for you, and a piping fresh word from God!
Just be sure to not check your brain at the door on the way in!
I look forward to seeing you early in the morning on Friday,
“For those who live according to the flesh set their minds on the things of the flesh, but those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit.” – Romans 8:5
“Those who are in the flesh cannot please God.” – Romans 8:8
“Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.”
“Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” – 2 Corinthians 3:17
